The immediate goal of the K-6.
Amigos Spanish Interactive Activities
series is to help the student develop a functional use of the
Spanish language. The structures and vocabulary presented begin with
the basic salutations and expressions of courtesy, identifying self and
others; identifying colors, classroom objects and activities; and expressing
wants and wants that are relevant to the student and the immediate environment.
These concepts spiral upward and continue to develop along with
other concepts presented, such as telling time, articles of clothing,
weather expressions, shopping, ordering in a restaurant, transportation
and travel, sports, leisure and recreational activities.
The functional use of grammar rather than the study of it is a
primary concern. Basic literacy skills are developed systematically and
refined later. Some of the grammar points practiced include noun-determiner
agreement, noun-adjective agreement, subject-verb agreement, word order
and use of idioms. Through the different levels of the program, the students
are introduced progressively to the present, present progressive, near
future, preterite, imperfect and future.
The series uses a variety of Spanish accents, mostly Latin-American
Spanish. Voices native-speaking children of all Spanish speaking countries.
The thematic structure of the three
levels has been designed to help students acquire strong language skills
while being gradually introduced to different aspects of the Spanish-speaking
world.
